A Walk Through Scripture
Friday, May 09, 2008 (17 reads)

Bible StudyI’d like to invite you to join me on Monday evenings for a walk through Scripture. Each week we’ll read the four passages from the lectionary for the following Sunday, I’ll share some background information, and we'll discuss the texts together.

What is the lectionary? The lectionary is a 3 year calendar of Scripture readings, generally one each from the Old Testament, Psalms, Epistles, and Gospels. The calendar begins each year with Advent and makes its way through the life of Jesus, ending with Christ the King Sunday.

The years are referred to as A, B, and C, with the Gospel readings in year A focusing primarily on Matthew, year B on Mark, and year C on Luke. Readings from the Gospel of John are used every year around the celebrations of Christmas and Easter. We are currently in year A of the lectionary.
