New Transitional Executive – Synod of Alaska-Northwest

Joyce Emery

The Synod of Alaska Northwest is proud to announce the appointment of the Reverend Joyce Martin Emery to the position of Transitional Synod Executive. Joyce comes to us from the Presbytery of New Brunswick in New Jersey where she has been Executive Presbyter from February 2002 to June 2007. Prior to that, she was Associate Executive of the Presbytery of New Brunswick from January 1992 to February 2002. She has served churches and presbyteries in Colorado and California. In accepting this position she is coming home to the Northwest. Joyce was ordained in Seattle at John Knox Presbyterian Church together with her husband, the Rev. Dave Emery. Her mother, the Rev. Iris Martin, is a pastor and is currently a member of the Presbytery of Olympia.

Progress is being made, but we're not finished yet!

The work at Mt. View is making great progress, but completion is not in view just yet. Much thanks to all of the volunteers and the congregation members from both Mt. View and University Presbyterian, for the many hours of love put into this project.

Proposed Amendments to the Constitution Votes Tallied

voting boxAmendments to the Constitution that were voted on at the March Presbytery meeting have been tallied, and the results are in.

Amendment A (Rewrite of chapter 14) squeaked by with a current vote of 87 to 82 (87 votes needed to pass)

Amendment B-2 (Licensure of candidates) failed barely.  Current vote: 79 to 89

All other amendments: B-1, B-3, C, D, E, F passed easily.

During the first two weekends in June, University Presbyterian Church and Mt. View Presbyterian Church have been working together on the update and remodel of Mt. View. This project will not only benefit the Mt. View congregation, but also the White Center community at large. The church provides a variety of services, including after-school and summer programs for kids and teens.
