Moderator's Musings May 2008

At our presbytery meeting this Tuesday, we will have another reminder that God calls people from every nationality and tongue to be disciples of Jesus.  We will be hosted by the Ethnic Ministry Team as we meet at Lake Burien church.  Commissioned Lay Pastors (CLP's) and leaders from our churches and worshipping fellowships who are from many places, including: Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania, will lead us in worship, serve us delicious food, and sit beside us as we do the work of the church together.  One of our CLP's Lina Thompson will be preaching and we will gather around the table together as we share in the Lord's Supper.

On Tuesday we will also have a chance to say "Thank You" to Jerry Poole who has been our excellent Interim Executive Presbyter for over a year and a half.  We will thank him for his time of service among us and his current work of helping to orient Scott Lumsden to the many joys and challenges in the work of serving our presbytery.

We will also commission our representatives to the 218th General Assembly which convenes next month in San Jose.  This will be the first GA with the increased number of commissioners, so we will be sending off six commissioners instead of our usual four.  In addition, with one Youth Advisory Delegate and two Theological Student Advisory Delegates, it will surely be the largest delegation from our presbytery ever.  Please surround these folks with your prayers and help us commission them on Tuesday night.

By the way, near the end of Acts 2, the 3,000 new believers "devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers."  I hope you will join us as we worship, fellowship, pray and break bread together Tuesday night at Lake Burien.
